I Finished My First HYROX… And It Taught Me More Than I Expected

I just finished my first HYROX race and OMG… that was hard.
Physically hard. Mentally hard. The kind of hard that makes you question yourself in the middle of it, and then feel unbelievably proud afterward.
It was amazing, painful, fun, horrible, exciting!! all the emotions combined into one single day. I truly gave it my all. And I loved that about myself. I loved that I committed. That I trained hard even on the days I didn’t feel like it. I loved the nerves at the start line and the energy of being surrounded by people pushing themselves too.
But what surprised me the most wasn’t the race.
It was the day after.
The day after the race, I felt sad. Empty. Almost lost.
I had spent so many weeks thinking about that day. Early mornings. Tough workouts. Visualizing myself finishing strong and hitting a time I’d be proud of.
And then… it was over.
Just like that.
I remember thinking, “Now what?”
And that feeling made me reflect on something bigger.
So Many Things in Life Feel Like This
We spend so much time focusing on getting to the finish line.
Losing weight. Getting the job. Building the business. Buying the house. Training for the race.
We pour our energy into the goal. We imagine how it will feel when we finally “arrive.”
But when we get there… life keeps going.
The finish line is powerful, but it’s short.
The process? That’s the longest part. That’s where most of our life actually happens.
HYROX wasn’t just the competition.
It was:
Every early workout when I wanted to stay in bed
Every run that felt strong
Every run that felt terrible
The days I felt like an athlete
The days I doubted myself
The coffee after training
The conversations with friends
The meals that fueled me
The moments I felt proud
The moments I wanted to quit
That was the real experience. That was the growth.
The race was great. The time mattered. But the transformation happened in the training.
The Real Lesson: Enjoy the Process
The process is where you GROW.
It’s where you:
Build discipline
Learn patience
Face discomfort
Discover strength you didn’t know you had
Fail and try again
The finish line is exciting because of who you became while getting there.
HYROX was just a race, but it felt like a life lesson.
Wanting something so badly. Working toward it for months. And then realizing the journey itself was the real gift.
The prize is good. But the process? That’s where you become someone new, and learn to actually enjoy life along the way.
